Dear Ms. Matyakubova,
Subject: Literacy Education Experience
Literature is the core of every subject that I took throughout my life. There are always passages that are supposed to be read for any course whether it’s science, psychology, or maybe even mathematics. English is everywhere, so I choose to read the language because there are so many topics that interest me and that is the language I grew with. I don’t speak English at home but I’m not as fluent in Arabic as I am in English.
In elementary school, I enjoyed going to school only because I always tried my best, so that motivated me in a way. The more I’ve done in school, the more confident I would be. Thus, I would often read because I pushed myself to excel in reading, even though I liked doing math problems. I was moved by the stories such as Amelia Bedelia or Ronald Dahl’s short stories. So, reading was a place I would go to when I want to imagine a whole new world in my mind.
Writing habits and skills weren’t developing as fast as reading techniques not until my last year of middle school. I’m never going to forget the time my teacher taught us how to format an essay so well in a way I felt organized in my essays most of the time. I remember doing very well in my high school English classes because of this teacher. As for reading, I tried reading what we needed to in high school, but there was never time to finish reading because of how close their exams were. Therefore, making it an overwhelming process and causing my loss of interest for reading.
As my first semester of college came, I had very amazing English professors that caught my attention the moment I was registering for the class. That class was all about killer stories, so every time I would attend the class I enjoyed reading the passages beforehand. College becomes more intense as the semesters go by, but I found your class to be very interesting as well. The articles that are assigned to us are exciting to read, especially “Why We Need to Understand Science” by Carl Sagan. After reading this article, I thought over the idea of becoming a science teacher one day. My goal so far is to finish my biochemistry degree but before my last semester, I must make up my mind on the career path I’m willing to take. I would like to thank you for hearing from me and I’m interested hearing back from you soon.

Best Regards,
Rahmah Hussein

Formal Letter of Introduction Reflection

There are many letters I have written throughout my life but not a formal letter of introduction. This assignment is very different, however, practicing my formal writing is very important when I send emails to organizations or my professors. As a biochemistry student, it’s often difficult trying to keep a formal tone in a letter that describes myself. While writing it, I remembered the first few moments in my life when I would always try to pick up a book. Currently, I do try to pick up a book when I can, aside from all the school work, because I need to improve my reading and writing skills to become a better scientist.
